Alias Robotics is excited to announce the release of RIS 2.0.0 . RIS is a security certified software solution offering an integral cybersecurity protection for robots and robot components. In this release, RIS is made available for two new technology groups: the Universal Robots e-Series and the Robot Operating System (ROS). Additionally, RIS users will receive an update for their robots, including new security patches, improvements in our Machine Learning algorithms for malicious pattern recognition and bug fixes in our visualization and firewall modules. This way we deliver a more adaptable and easy to use cybersecurity solution for robots.

The Robot Immune System aims to provide robots with the immune system they require. By living inside the robot, RIS is the first cybersecurity tool to deploy meaningful protection at the endpoint level. This way RIS monitors the robot and evolves with it, offering an integral protection based on active individual threat detection and prevention.

Each robot has its unique immune system to ensure security which can be trained or adapted over time.

What's new in this version?

RIS was originally built as a research project funded jointly by the Basque Government and the European Union. Versions 0.x.y were research PoCs allowing our team of roboticists, security engineers and biologists to bring the biological principles RIS has been built upon to silicon. Starting from version 1.0.0, RIS started being deployed into pilots with first early customers.

RIS 2.0.0 is the first industrial-grade cybersecurity solution for robots. We re-implemented completely our codebase in C++ to meet the requirements of the most common scenarios in industry. RIS 2.0.0 also set us on the path to pursue security certification for robots, stay tuned for more on this :).

This version includes the following new technical updates:

  1. New security patches mitigating new robot zero-days.
  2. Improvements in our Machine Learning algorithms for improved malicious pattern recognition.
  3. Bug fixes in visualization and firewall modules.
  4. RIS cybersecurity support for new robots: Universal Robots UR3e, UR5e and UR10e.
  5. Support for ROS, the Robot Operating System.

Beyond our excitement for supporting new robots, we're also extremely proud to announce that RIS is now available to secure ROS deployments. Particularly, we're releasing ROS cybersecurity in the form of RIS for: Kinetic Kame and Melodic Morenia. RIS for ROS comes in the form of a series of patches for the computational graph and some complementary new ROS packages. It's served per project and through a license, with an attached support contract to it.

What's next?

We are constantly working hard to bring security to more robots. At the moment we are working on extending RIS to officially secure robot from Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR) and all related derivatives. MiR robots are widely used for industrial and healthcare applications, being one of the most popular platforms used to fight against COVID-19.
